Because of two wonderful people named Sara and Matt, both friends of Michael, we are now able to publish a more complete version of his Iraq Journal than previously posted here.
A big thank you to them for finding this website and responding to the call for more about Michael. The full Journal now includes pictures, and entries, that he sent to friends and family in 2008 for June 4 – 30, July 3 and 10, and in February 2009 – a total of 13 more daily entries, tens of thousands of additional words, greatly expanding the version first posted here. They range from the beginning of his Iraq experiences, when he started his new job on June 4, to the conclusion, when he moved on to Abu Dhabi, a period he wrote about in his book “Castles in the Sand” published by McFarland Press in 2014.
The entries contain uncorrected misspellings and some other quirks – there aren’t that many, and they are original. Most of all, it is all Michael. And now we appear to have all of the Journal, nearly 50,000 words, what could be a self-standing book … unless someone comes up with more. If so, please forward.
