Growing up, Michael played youth baseball in Plymouth. In 2016 the Michael Cameron Dempsey Fund had an opportunity to support the Eagle Scout project of Plymouth Township resident and baseball enthusiast Chase Every.
A Boy Scout with Troop 1537, Chase played ball at the park for years and wondered why it lacked a flagpole to display the national emblem. To achieve Eagle Scout rank, a key requirement is to plan, supervise, and complete a community project. Chase decided that meeting the need for a flagpole at his community’s main recreation site would be his project.
To raise money, engraved bricks for a small plaza to surround the pole were sold to individuals and companies. The Michael Cameron Dempsey Fund commemorated Michael’s baseball career as a boy in Plymouth with donating the cost of a brick to help this Eagle Scout project become a reality.
Today, visitors to the Park will see the plaza and 35-foot tall flagpole with a light source near the middle of the four ball diamonds at the north end. The brick in Michael’s honor is installed.
