The Michael Cameron Dempsey Fund made a significant investment in the Plymouth community’s K-12 education in 2016-17 through sole sponsorship of a program administered by the PCCS Educational Excellence Foundation.
The “Project Achieve Study Center Tutorial Program” provides two hours of afterschool tutoring support on a weekly basis to 150 middle school students who struggle academically with their core academic subjects. The tutorial support focuses on four academic content areas: English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies that most middle school students struggle with. Middle school students who are experiencing academic challenges in any of the four core academic content areas have access to the Project Achieve Study Center to receive the needed academic support that will help them to improve their grades and overall GPA which will result in better NWEA and M-STEP test scores.
The five middle schools in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools can provide this program to their students thanks to Michael’s Fund.
Michael loved learning. He also valued how education provides opportunities for children of every age and circumstance. As a beneficiary of the PCCS Talented and Gifted program, he was able to deploy his God-given extraordinary mind for good. He carried on his love of learning by tutoring kids in Detroit during his work there.
